Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald breaks down the key roster and asset-related decisions facing the Miami Heat this offseason. Miami holds the No. 20 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft – an asset acquired through the Jimmy Butler trade.
However, their pick, which landed at No. 15, will be conveyed to the Oklahoma City Thunder due to a previous obligation.
In terms of trade flexibility, the Heat are relatively limited: aside from this year’s 20th overall selection, their only tradable future first-round pick before or during the draft is their 2030 pick.
On the free agency front, the Heat are expected to extend a qualifying offer to Davion Mitchell, which would make him a restricted free agent and give Miami the right to match any offer he receives.
Still, extending the offer doesn’t guarantee they’ll retain him, especially if a competing team presents a hefty contract.
Another unresolved matter is Duncan Robinson’s partially guaranteed deal; the front office must determine whether his shooting and fit justify the financial commitment or if it’s time to move on.
