Kelly Iko of The Athletic points out that if the Houston Rockets hope to turn the tide in their series against the Warriors, they’ll need to tighten up their defense, particularly against Golden State’s supporting cast.
In Game 3, Buddy Hield and Gary Payton II capitalized on Houston’s defensive lapses, combining for 33 points while shooting an efficient 7-of-14 from beyond the arc.
Their unexpected offensive outburst played a key role in the Warriors’ win and highlighted a recurring issue for Houston: an inability to contain secondary scorers.
In addition to defensive adjustments, the Rockets also need more consistent late-game execution from their young core, especially center Alperen Şengun.
While he posted a decent scoring line, finishing 7-of-18 from the field, his struggles at the free-throw line – hitting just one of six attempts – proved costly in a close game.
As Houston’s primary interior presence and offensive hub, Şengun’s ability to perform under pressure will be critical if the team hopes to extend the series and remain competitive.
