Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his right wrist following an MRI, the team announced.
His status for Game 2 of the Celtics’ first-round series against the Orlando Magic remains uncertain, and he is officially listed as day-to-day.
The injury, which appears to be more about discomfort than structural damage, could ultimately come down to Tatum’s pain tolerance.
While the team is optimistic about his long-term outlook, his availability for Wednesday’s game may be a game-time decision depending on how his wrist responds to treatment and activity in the next 24–48 hours.
Despite dealing with what now appears to be a lingering wrist issue, Tatum delivered a strong all-around performance in Boston’s Game 1 victory.
He finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 assists, helping lead the Celtics to a 1-0 series lead while playing through visible discomfort at times.
“He’s one of the toughest guys out there,” a team source said. “If there’s any chance he can play, he’s going to be out there competing.”
The Celtics will continue to monitor Tatum’s condition closely as they prepare for Game 2 at TD Garden.
In the meantime, the coaching staff is weighing potential adjustments should Tatum be limited or unable to go, including increased offensive roles for Jaylen Brown and Derrick White.
