Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James delivered a career-high 17 points in Thursday night’s 118-89 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, earning high praise from head coach JJ Redick. Despite the defeat, Bronny’s performance marked a significant milestone in his young NBA career.

“Not surprised by tonight,” Redick said postgame. “His confidence is growing, and the next step is becoming an elite-conditioned athlete. With his physical tools and burst, we think he’s going to be an above-average to really good NBA shooter.”

The Lakers, playing without LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura, were outmatched by a dominant Bucks squad. Giannis Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee with 28 points, while Gary Trent Jr. added 23 off the bench, including six three-pointers.

Bronny’s 17 points came on an efficient 6-of-10 shooting, showcasing his potential as a scorer. However, the Lakers struggled offensively, shooting just 41.5% from the field and committing 19 turnovers.

Milwaukee seized control early, closing the first quarter with a 20-5 run. The Bucks never relinquished their lead, capitalizing on their defensive intensity and Trent Jr.’s hot hand from beyond the arc.

Redick emphasized Bronny’s growth in high-pressure situations. “We’ve monitored him in the G [League], and he’s been really good in endgame scenarios. His comfort level is certainly there,” he said.

“Being ready at all times, that’s the biggest thing for me. Playing stay-ready games and stuff like that so I can be ready for nights like tonight,” Bronny said postgame.

Despite the loss, Bronny’s performance offered a silver lining for the Lakers, who saw their nine-game home winning streak snapped. Dalton Knecht also scored 17 points, but LA’s short-handed roster couldn’t keep pace with Milwaukee’s balanced attack.

The Bucks improved to 39-30, solidifying their hold on the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Lakers (43-26) will look to regroup as they await the return of their star players.
