The Dallas Mavericks have assigned Anthony Davis and Jaden Hardy to their G League affiliate, the Texas Legends, allowing both players to participate in 5-on-5 scrimmages as they work their way back from injuries.

The move provides them with valuable on-court reps while also giving the shorthanded Mavericks some flexibility as they navigate a depleted roster.

Davis has been sidelined since February 8 with a strained left adductor, an injury that initially raised concerns about his availability for the remainder of the season.

According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, there were internal discussions about shutting Davis down entirely, but the veteran big man remained committed to making a return before the season’s end.

Meanwhile, Hardy has missed the Mavericks’ last seven games due to a sprained ankle and will use this stint with the Legends to regain his rhythm and conditioning.

Dallas has been dealing with significant roster challenges, recently dropping to just eight available players over the weekend.

Additionally, two-way players Kessler Edwards and Brandon Williams are nearing the maximum number of NBA games allowed under their contracts, further complicating the team’s depth situation.

With Davis and Hardy working their way back, the Mavs hope to soon regain some much-needed reinforcements for their playoff push.
