Despite their disappointing 20-38 record, which ranks as the sixth-worst in the league, the Philadelphia 76ers still have a shot at making the play-in tournament.
They are currently 2.5 games behind the 10th-seeded Chicago Bulls. However, Paul George openly acknowledged on Monday that the team has shown “no signs” of being capable of competing at a playoff level.
The 76ers are expected to make a decision soon about whether or not to shut down Joel Embiid for the rest of the season, as he continues to deal with a persistent knee injury.
Should Embiid be sidelined, it will raise questions about whether the team will take similar measures with George and Tyrese Maxey.
Maxey, who is also battling a right finger injury, has struggled with his ball-handling and shooting as a result.
In a recent game, Maxey had a rough outing, shooting just 12-of-32 from the field, including an 0-of-10 performance from beyond the three-point line.
