Khris Middleton of the Washington Wizards came agonizingly close to delivering a dramatic moment against his former team, as his last-second attempt to tie the game and force overtime just missed, bouncing off the rim, reports Varun Shankar of The Washington Post.

Despite the heartbreaking finish, coach Brian Keefe had relied heavily on Middleton during the final stages of the game, running much of the offense through the seasoned forward.

“He’s a closer, has been for a very long time in this league. And we are going to take advantage of having him on our roster,” Keefe said, underscoring Middleton’s role as a reliable end-of-game option and the team’s confidence in his ability to step up in crucial moments.

Middleton has played 13 seasons for the Bucks, Wizards and Pistons. He has averaged 16.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 763 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in 3 All-Star games and has won 1 NBA championship.
