Malika Andrews and Brian Windhorst are set to become free agents in 2025, with their current contracts with ESPN expiring at different points.
Andrews’ deal will conclude in the fall, while Windhorst’s is up in the summer. ESPN, however, is eager to retain both of these prominent figures on their team.
Andrews is currently the host of NBA Today and NBA Countdown, and she has also garnered attention from within the NBA league office.
There has been speculation that Andrews could eventually transition into a broader role, potentially on a daytime news or entertainment show, given her growing profile.
Windhorst, who joined ESPN in 2010, is a staple of ESPN’s basketball coverage, regularly appearing on shows like Get Up, First Take, and NBA Today.
His connection with fellow NBA insider Shams Charania is well known, with one source remarking, “Shams is the what—and Windy is the why,” underscoring their complementary dynamic.
ESPN’s recent changes, including the retirement of Adrian Wojnarowski and the layoff of Zach Lowe before the start of the 2024-2025 season, have made securing Andrews and Windhorst even more pressing.
As the timing of their contract negotiations aligns with a period when networks like NBC and Amazon are ramping up their hiring of broadcasters and reporters ahead of their media rights deals with the NBA, ESPN may face stiff competition in keeping their key talents.
