The Detroit Pistons have acquired veteran guard Dennis Schroder from the Utah Jazz, according to NBA insider Shams Charania. This move strengthens Detroit’s backcourt as the team looks to solidify its playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
Schroder, 31, is averaging 14.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in 29.8 minutes per game this season. The German point guard is on the final year of a two-year, $25 million contract, making him a short-term asset for the Pistons.
This trade marks Schroder’s fourth team switch of the season, continuing a hectic year for the former Sixth Man of the Year. He was initially dealt from the Toronto Raptors to the Brooklyn Nets in February 2024, then moved to the Golden State Warriors in December. Most recently, he was part of the blockbuster deal that sent Jimmy Butler to Golden State, landing him with the Jazz.
Detroit, currently 25-26 and seventh in the Eastern Conference, is making a push for a postseason return. Schroder’s experience, playmaking, and scoring ability add depth behind Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey.
The Jazz, sitting at 12-37 and 14th in the Western Conference, continue their rebuilding process by moving off Schroder’s expiring contract. Utah has focused on developing young talent while accumulating future assets.
