Kyrie Irving announced he would cover the fines for Naji Marshall and P.J. Washington after their altercation with Jusuf Nurkic during Friday night’s game.

“Throw that sh*t under the rug. Excuse my language,” Irving said, per Duane Rankin. “Maybe that’s just the way we end 2024 where somebody actually swings in the NBA. Maybe that will help our ratings.”

The incident occurred in the third quarter of the Dallas Mavericks’ 98-89 victory over the Phoenix Suns. Marshall, Washington, and Nurkic were ejected after the scuffle, which briefly halted the game.

Irving played a crucial role in the Mavericks’ win, scoring 20 points and hitting five three-pointers. Dallas improved to 20-11 despite missing Luka Doncic, who sat out due to a calf injury.

Daniel Gafford added 16 points and five rebounds, while Spencer Dinwiddie and Maxi Kleber contributed 15 points each off the bench. The Mavericks controlled the game from start to finish, leading by as many as 18 points.

Phoenix relied heavily on Kevin Durant, who tallied 35 points on 11-of-19 shooting. However, the Suns’ supporting cast struggled, and the team fell to 15-15 with its fourth loss in five games. Injuries to key players, including Devin Booker, have hindered Phoenix’s performance.

The ejections in the third quarter further disrupted Phoenix’s rhythm. While the altercation did not escalate into a full-blown fight, it highlighted growing tensions as both teams battled for control.

Despite a late rally by Phoenix, Dallas sealed the victory with timely plays, including a crucial three-pointer from Quentin Grimes. The Mavericks’ defense stifled the Suns’ secondary scorers, with Royce O’Neale being the only other player in double figures aside from Durant.
