A man from Nebraska added new life to the celebration after acquiring Michael Jordan’s iconic Chicago-area mansion earlier this month.

John Cooper, a resident of Lincoln, purchased the 56,000-square-foot Highland Park estate for $9.5 million, closing an 11-year chapter of the property cycling on and off the market.

The NBA legend had originally listed the mansion for $29 million in 2012 before significantly reducing the price, as reported by the Lincoln Journal Star.

Constructed by Jordan during his Chicago Bulls days, the sprawling seven-acre property served as his home during the team’s championship run in the 1990s.

The estate boasts nine bedrooms, 19 bathrooms (including 15 full baths), a putting green, a tennis court, a cigar lounge, and a regulation basketball court, according to Zillow.

The mansion’s famous “23” gate, a nod to Jordan’s jersey number, has turned it into a tourist attraction.

Cooper, a real estate investor and partner at HAN Capital with 12 years of experience, wasted no time enjoying his new acquisition.

Within two weeks of ownership, he hosted a party to celebrate his 42nd birthday, treating friends to basketball and golf on the property.

Reflecting on the purchase, Cooper shared his admiration for Jordan, recalling the basketball legend’s unmatched talent.

“My favorite player to watch was always Jordan. He made shots that seemed impossible and delivered on defense, too,” he said.

Cooper hinted at upcoming plans for the estate, which he intends to reveal in January, but emphasized that Jordan’s legacy would remain intact.

“The ‘23’ gate stays untouched,” Cooper promised, adding that no major renovations are planned. “This place is great just the way it is.”

Although Cooper has lived in Chicago for more than a decade, the mansion will not serve as his primary residence.

Married with three children, Cooper balances his personal life with his professional endeavors and has expressed excitement about stewarding the property’s rich history.
