Nickeil Alexander-Walker contributed 17 points off the bench for Minnesota, which has now won five of its last seven games. The Timberwolves improved to 14-11 on the season with the win.
Victor Wembanyama posted a double-double for San Antonio, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jeremy Sochan added 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Harrison Barnes also scored 17 points for the Spurs.
Minnesota jumped out to an early lead by forcing 10 turnovers and securing 13 second-chance points in the first half. The Timberwolves led by as many as 16 points before the Spurs trimmed the margin to four midway through the third quarter.
The Timberwolves’ defensive intensity limited San Antonio to just 24.4% shooting from beyond the arc. The Spurs, who entered the contest shooting 35% from three, missed 34 of their 45 long-range attempts.
Rob Dillingham scored three points for Minnesota in his first appearance against the team that drafted him eighth overall. The Spurs traded him to the Timberwolves on draft night for future picks.
For San Antonio, the loss snapped their momentum after a dramatic comeback win over Portland on Friday. The Spurs, now 13-13, struggled to maintain consistency in their third game without injured forwards Keldon Johnson and Zach Collins.
Jeremy Sochan, playing his second game back from thumb surgery, recorded his second straight double-double. Despite his efforts, the Spurs’ lack of depth and poor shooting proved costly.
Minnesota’s bench played a key role in the win, with Alexander-Walker leading all reserves in scoring. The Timberwolves also received contributions from Donte DiVincenzo, who chipped in seven points and five rebounds, and Naz Reid, who added three points and eight rebounds.
