San Antonio Spurs point guard Chris Paul showed appreciation for Hall of Famer John Stockton barely missing any games/thanked his support system following becoming the NBA’s #2 all-time assists leader during Sunday’s 121-116 home win vs. the New Orleans Pelicans (12,099 career assists).
(via San Antonio Spurs):
Reporter: “Do you appreciate the fact that John Stockton played 19 seasons, and missed only 20 games?”
Paul: “Trust me, I know. More power to him, that is not my ministry. That is not my story. I wish I only missed 20 games. I’m 5 hand surgeries later. It’s been different points in my career where I’m sure I’ve been written off. Traded here, traded there to OKC, this that, and the third. But I want to say a big thank you to my family, my support system. Shoutout to my grandmother, my whole family, but my grandma. When I tell you I got a praying grandma… I called my grandmother on the way to the game, and she was at church, her and my grandad. So, I know how covered I am. Thank God for the family I have and the support system, because those are the people that pick me up every time I’ve fallen.”
