Jarred Vanderbilt’s highly anticipated return to the Los Angeles Lakers lineup has been delayed. The Lakers confirmed that the forward’s recovery from offseason foot procedures, which began in May, has been slower than expected.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the team stated that while there have been no setbacks, Vanderbilt’s ramp-up process has taken longer than initially planned. He will be re-evaluated in a couple of weeks to determine the next steps in his recovery.

Vanderbilt, who agreed to a four-year, $48 million contract extension with the Lakers in September 2023, had been expected to make a significant impact this season.

The deal, which is fully guaranteed with a player option in the fourth year, reflects the Lakers’ confidence in his potential. However, his recovery timeline is now in question as he works his way back onto the court.

Last season, Vanderbilt provided the Lakers with solid contributions off the bench, averaging 5.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 20 minutes per game.

The Lakers have enjoyed a strong start to the 2024-25 season, currently sitting third in the Western Conference with a 10-4 record.

However, the absence of Vanderbilt, who is known for his defense and hustle, leaves a noticeable gap in the team’s depth.
