Victor Wembanyama led the San Antonio Spurs to a thrilling 109-106 victory over the Houston Rockets on Saturday night. The young star scored 29 points, showcasing his skills as the Spurs celebrated their home opener.

Wembanyama added seven rebounds and three blocks, shooting an impressive 10 for 17 from the field. Jeremy Sochan contributed significantly with 17 points and 12 rebounds, playing a key role in San Antonio’s success.

Chris Paul, although held to three points, dished out nine assists. His vision was pivotal in setting up Sochan for an important layup that extended the Spurs’ lead to 104-99 with 1:35 left in the game.

The Rockets fought back after trailing by 22 points in the first half. A strong fourth quarter saw them go on a 21-8 run, narrowing San Antonio’s lead to just one possession in the closing minutes.

Jalen Green led Houston with 27 points, while Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks added 18 and 16 points, respectively. Despite their offensive struggles early in the game, the Rockets managed to shoot 60% in the final quarter.

Houston’s poor start hindered their chances of winning. After shooting only 34% through the first three quarters, including a dismal 17% in the second, they finally found their rhythm late in the game.

San Antonio’s three-point shooting was a point of concern, as they went just 2 for 13 after initially starting the game with a strong 6 for 7 performance. Their ability to secure rebounds, however, made a difference, as the Spurs outrebounded the Rockets 57-46.

After the Spurs established a commanding lead, Houston’s late surge showcased their resilience. However, they could not fully overcome the Spurs’ strong start.
