New Orleans Pelicans guard Jordan Hawkins has had an outstanding preseason, showcasing his potential and skill set.
The player’s impressive performance has put him in line for a regular rotation spot, as confirmed by Pelicans head coach Willie Green.
When asked if the second-year guard was a “no-doubt-about-it rotation player,” Green replied, “Absolutely.”
Hawkins faced challenges during his rookie season, averaging 7.8 points over 67 games while shooting only 38.2% from the field.
His role was primarily as a three-point specialist, with over 65% of his shots coming from beyond the arc.
Despite these struggles, Hawkins showed flashes of promise, indicating that he could develop into a more versatile player.
This preseason, however, Hawkins has demonstrated significant growth and an expanded game.
The 6-foot-5 guard has averaged 16.3 points while shooting an impressive 50% from the field, showcasing his ability to score in a variety of ways.
His offensive repertoire now includes not just three-point shooting but also the capability to drive to the basket and create his shot.
The Pelicans are particularly counting on Hawkins to step up in the absence of Trey Murphy III, who is expected to be limited at the start of the season due to a hamstring injury.
With Hawkins’s newfound confidence and versatility, he could play a crucial role in helping the team maintain their offensive production as they navigate the early part of the season.
