Dennis Schröder and Ben Simmons will both be in the starting lineup on Tuesday as the Brooklyn Nets open their preseason against the Los Angeles Clippers, reports Brian Lewis of The New York Post.

Throughout training camp, much of the discussion has centered around which of the two will be the team’s starting point guard. However, head coach Jordi Fernandez has decided to experiment by starting them together, offering a unique dynamic to the Nets’ lineup.

“It’s something that it gives us a different look right now, playing with size, but not a true big and a lot of playmaking and shooting,” Fernandez said. “So it’s going to be fun. It’s going to be very fun to give it a look.”

Fernandez’s decision to pair Schröder and Simmons offers a versatile backcourt, with both players capable of initiating offense, distributing the ball, and defending multiple positions.

This lineup will provide the Nets with more size on the floor without relying on a traditional center, allowing for increased flexibility in both offensive and defensive schemes.

Simmons, who has a history of playing point-forward and excelling in transition, could complement Schröder’s quickness and scoring ability, giving the team an intriguing balance between playmaking and athleticism.

This experiment will also be an opportunity for Simmons to show he can regain his form after dealing with injuries in recent seasons, while Schröder, known for his scoring and playmaking, will look to solidify his role in the starting lineup.

The preseason will give Fernandez a chance to see how the two mesh on the court and whether this unique combination can become a permanent fixture in the Nets’ rotation.

As Fernandez mentioned, the pairing opens up new possibilities for the Nets’ style of play, and the team is eager to see how this unconventional lineup performs as they begin their preparations for the upcoming season.
