Paul Mokeski, a former NBA center, has expressed concerns about the long-term health of Victor Wembanyama. Mokeski, speaking with Dusty Garza of News 4 San Antonio, highlighted the potential risks associated with extreme height.

Wembanyama, who was the No. 1 overall draft pick by the San Antonio Spurs, had a standout rookie season. He averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 3.6 blocks per game.

Mokeski, who is himself a former NBA big man, shared his worries about the physical toll of being exceptionally tall. “It takes its toll,” Mokeski said in the interview.

He pointed out that the human body is not naturally designed to handle such great height. “The human body is not made to be so tall,” Mokeski explained.

He referenced several former tall NBA players who faced health issues. “From Darryl Dawkins and Moses Malone to Earl Cureton, Wilt Chamberlain, and Jack Haley, they all died from heart-related problems,” Mokeski noted.

These historical cases have led to concerns within the basketball community. Mokeski added, “This is what happens with tall players like me who played in the NBA.”

The former center stressed that these health issues are not just theoretical. “We notice the former tall players who have passed away and how they died. Yes, it is a concern,” Mokeski said.

Despite Wembanyama’s impressive statistics and potential, Mokeski’s comments reflect broader concerns about the impact of height on health.

Wembanyama’s rookie season demonstrated his remarkable skills and impact on the court. However, Mokeski’s insights remind of the physical challenges that come with towering height.
