Earlier this offseason, New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson has signed a four-year, $156.6 million contract extension, set to begin in the 2025-26 NBA season.

This new deal follows Brunson’s previous four-year, $104 million contract with the Knicks.

Brunson’s choice for a shorter but substantial contract aims to offer the Knicks more roster flexibility.

The extension includes a fourth-year player option, potentially setting Brunson up for a larger deal in the future.

Brunson’s performance last season, which included his first NBA All-Star selection, influenced this strategic decision.

In the previous season, Brunson averaged 28.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game, and elevated his game in the playoffs.

“I knew if I did this, it would give us a lot of flexibility and help put us in a position to win,” Brunson stated, emphasizing his commitment to the Knicks, via Michael Scotto.

“I know a lot of people don’t agree with it and a lot of people think it’s not smart from an individual standpoint, but I know that I’m comfortable here. This is home for me.”
