Rudy Gobert’s finger injury has been a point of concern as France advances to the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The Minnesota Timberwolves center, who played less than four minutes in France’s 82-73 win over Canada, revealed he had surgery on his left ring finger the day before the game.
According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, Gobert expressed gratitude for being able to play despite the recent procedure.
French coach Vincent Collet clarified that Gobert underwent a painful exam rather than surgery, which included an MRI.
Collet indicated that while the exam affected Gobert, it was not the primary reason for his limited playing time.
The coach opted to use a smaller lineup during the game, and Gobert was cleared to participate.
Gobert has averaged 4.5 points and 5 rebounds in 16.8 minutes per game during the Olympics.
France’s progress to the semifinals comes despite the challenges faced by their star center.
