NBA insider Brian Windhorst has lent further credence to reports suggesting that the Los Angeles Lakers are leaning towards appointing JJ Redick as their new head coach, echoing sentiments expressed by fellow insider Shams Charania.
Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, Windhorst stated, “Do I think it’s going to be JJ [Redick]? Probably. Is it going to happen at the end of the finals? Probably. Is it a done deal? Not to my understanding.”
Windhorst also revealed that only Redick and New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach James Borrego travelled to Los Angeles for in-person conversations with the team.
While Redick has not explicitly confirmed the reports, he has hinted at potential developments post-NBA Finals, where he is currently occupied as a commentator, aligning with Windhorst’s remarks.
Redick’s comments suggest that significant updates regarding his career trajectory may be imminent.
The Lakers are reportedly narrowing their search for a new head coach, with Redick emerging as a prominent candidate.
Despite his lack of coaching experience, Redick’s profile and potential have garnered significant interest from Lakers officials.
The franchise has also considered other candidates, including seasoned assistants from various NBA teams.
