Amidst swirling rumors surrounding Donovan Mitchell’s future with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team remains hopeful that the All-Star guard will commit to a contract extension, according to NBA insider Brian Windhorst.

With Mitchell eligible for an extension this summer, the Cavaliers are actively engaged in negotiations to secure his long-term future with the franchise.

“The Cavs remain optimistic that Donovan is signing. They believe he’s gonna and I think a lot of their offseason planning is with the strong belief that they’re keeping him,” Windhorst said.

Despite having two years remaining on his current contract, Mitchell holds a player option for the second year, adding urgency for the Cavaliers to reach an agreement on an extension.

Throughout the season, Mitchell averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game, solidifying his status as a cornerstone player for the Cavaliers.

As the offseason unfolds, the Cavaliers are prioritizing efforts to retain Mitchell, recognizing his importance to the team’s present and future success.
