In a surprising move, the Milwaukee Bucks parted ways with first-year head coach Adrian Griffin, despite the Bucks boasting a 30-13 record under Griffin’s guidance, ranking second in the Eastern Conference and third in the NBA.

NBA legend Magic Johnson and five-time champion expressed strong disapproval, labeling the firing as a “big mistake.”

Johnson pointed out that Griffin shouldn’t be held responsible for the team trading Jrue Holiday, their best on-ball defender, emphasizing the Bucks’ defensive struggles and overall sluggishness.

The basketball icon took to X, stating, “I think the Bucks firing former Head Coach Adrian Griffin was a big mistake. It’s not his fault the Bucks traded their best on-ball defender, Jrue Holiday. They are not a good defensive team and are all-around too slow.”

As the Bucks explore coaching options, discussions with former Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers are reportedly in progress.

Johnson extended his congratulations to Rivers for accepting the Bucks’ head coaching position, praising him as a world champion who demands hard play, good defense, and cohesive teamwork.

“I want to congratulate my friend, and one of the best to ever coach in the NBA, Doc Rivers for accepting the Milwaukee Bucks head coaching job! Doc is a World Champion so he will demand that the Bucks play hard, play good defense, and play well together,” Johnson tweeted.
