George Papagiannis emerged as the hero for Fenerbahce Beko, scoring eight of his team-leading 15 points in the final 3:12 to thwart Olympiacos Piraeus’ comeback attempt from a 16-point deficit, securing a narrow 79-77 home victory.

“We had a big difference but they came back,” Papagiannis said. His team is now 5-1. “Olympiacos has been to the Final Four two times in a row. It’s not by luck.

“But we were prepared and knew from the first day of practices that it’s going to be a tough game. We started the game really good we finished on a positive mindset and we got the win.”

Papagiannis showcased his clutch performance by sinking three-pointers, bringing the score to 74-71 and 79-74 with 1:10 left.

Despite Alec Peters narrowing the gap to 79-77, Fenerbahce secured two consecutive offensive rebounds after missed opportunities.

Following a missed three-pointer by Scottie Wilbekin and a contentious out-of-bounds call, the referees overturned the decision, giving Olympiacos 17 seconds to either tie or win the game.
