Rajon Rondo, a two-time NBA champion, recently shared a remarkable and surprising story about how he learned of his torn ACL injury diagnosis.

The incident occurred during a game in Atlanta when Rondo tore his ACL. Remarkably, he continued to play for another half-hour after the injury, initially underestimating its severity.

Not only that, the point guard was hoping to play the next game. His determination was fueled by a desire to chase Larry Bird’s triple-double record in the following game.

However, as the pain in his knee intensified, Rondo realized something was seriously wrong. He was eventually taken to the hospital for an MRI. It was during the journey back from the hospital that the unexpected occurred.

In a shocking twist, his doctor turned on the radio, only for Rondo to hear the announcer reveal his ACL tear diagnosis. The revelation left the player astounded and speechless.

“So I tore my ACL in Atlanta… My adrenaline was going so crazy I didn’t even feel it [during the game]… On my way back from the MRI, we turn on the radio, and they’re like, ‘Rondo’s out because of an ACL tear,'” Rondo recounted during his conversation with JJ Redick on The Old Man & The Three podcast.
