Adam Drexler, son of Trail Blazers legend Clyde Drexler, has come to the defense of Damian Lillard following the point guard’s trade request and the subsequent backlash from fans.

“It’s in my blood to take the high road. I’d love to hear what fans are turning on… have I mislead them? Or anyone ? Fill me in,” the player tweeted in response to a tweet about fans turning on him.

Lillard, who spent 11 remarkable seasons with the Trail Blazers, expressed his desire to be traded to the Heat in pursuit of a championship opportunity. The 32-year-old had hoped for Portland to build a competitive roster, but the team’s shift towards a rebuild left him seeking a new destination.

In the face of criticism directed at Lillard for the team’s rebuilding efforts, Adam Drexler took to Twitter to remind fans of his father’s own experience in a similar situation. He questioned why fans were pointing fingers at the player rather than holding the organization accountable for the rebuild.

Adam’s tweet read, “Now that Dame and my father have been in the same situation of requesting a trade because of a rebuild, I’m curious as to why fans point the finger at the player and not the org for the rebuild? Did they not draft his replacement??? Either way, best of luck to both.”

Adam’s insightful comment sheds light on the complexity of NBA trades and the expectations placed on players. His defense of both his father and Lillard highlights the challenges faced by athletes when decisions are made that may not align with their aspirations.
