As their season shuts down on a painful conclusion, the Boston Celtics are heading to a significant offseason looking to remodel themselves in order to get over the hump.
With Jaylen Brown’s eligibility for a supermax contract being one of the key components of their priorities this summer, the Celtics got themselves an important decision to make. For Jayson Tatum, re-signing his co-star is an urgent one given his value and abilities.
“It’s extremely important. He’s one of the best players in this league,” Tatum said about how important a Brown re-signing is. “He plays both ends of the ball and still relatively young too, and he’s accomplished a lot so far in his career. He shot things extremely important.”
After being named to the All-NBA Second Team this season, Brown, who still got one more year left in his current deal, became eligible to sign a five-year, $295 million supermax contract this offseason. Despite this enticing amount, there has been plenty of rumblings about the uncertain commitment of the star swingman to the franchise.
For now, Brown admitted that he still got no idea how to process his upcoming contract status as they start their move-on process from the postseason collapse.
“It’s hard to think about anything else right now to be honest,” he said. “We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”
