Lakers newcomer Lonnie Walker IV immediately became a starter for his new team after starting just 6 games last season in San Antonio. Most recently he scored 14 points in 28 minutes of play against his former team.
Head coach Darvin Ham has major confidence in the former first round pick. According to him, the player is also very confident in his abilities.
“I think his confidence is through the roof. The kid is phenomenal,” Ham said about the 23-year-old shooting guard. “I believe in him and I tell him all the time ‘Just go out there and have fun and play as hard as you can play, compete as hard as you can compete and the rest will take care of itself.’
“He tries to play it the right way. I think most of the time he does indeed do that. I just have a huge amount of trust and belief in him as well as Austin [Reaves], and all of our guys. I just want our guys to play confident, really really confident basketball and lean on one another as opposed to trying to do things on their own and play hero basketball.
“Everything that we’ve seen recently – guys are playing within themselves and they’re playing within the system and it’s producing huge benefits.”
This season Walker is averaging 16.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 31.3 minutes per game.
