Draymond Green has two more years left on his current contract with the Warriors, the second year (2023-2024) is player option. Should the four-time NBA champion choose to opt out next summer, he will become an unrestricted free agent.

He is eligible to sign an extension before October 17, but it is unlikely to happen as Golden State prioritizes extending Jordan Poole’s contract. There are some speculations that Green wants to join the Lakers.

Reportedly, people within the Dubs organization are not concerned with such possibility and instead think that such rumors is a negotiations tactic to get a better offer from the team.

“There have been rumors out there circulating about Draymond Green and the Los Angeles Lakers. Obviously, he has a relationship with LeBron James. Some in the Warriors’ organization I’ve spoken to aren’t concerned about it. There’s a belief from some around the league it could be a negotiating tactic to get more money in extension talks with the Warriors, and maybe LeBron is trying to weaken the competition in the West.”
