Amid the murmurs about the Brooklyn Nets’ coaching transition following a disappointing season, Kevin Durant still remains devoted to Steve Nash.

Asked in post-game if Nash is still “the right guy to lead” the club, the future hall of famer quickly hurled his own insightful comments and defended his head coach.

“C’mon man, Yeah,” Durant answered, via New York Post’ Brian Lewis. “Steve [Nash] has been dealt a crazy hand the last two years, he’s been having to deal with so much stuff as a head coach for the first time, COVID, trades. I’m proud of his passion for us.”

Insider Marc Stein recently reported that Nash will still secure his job as Brooklyn’s lead tactician due to Durant’s influence in the team.

While this storyline seems enticing as it is, the difficulties that Nash faced all year long should not be discarded — as these played significant factors on why the Nets underperformed upon being hailed as early season favorites to clinch the title.

In his second season handling the Nets’ drawing board, Nash went through plenty of hurdles and challenges. He didn’t have Kyrie Irving full-time until March due to vaccine issues, James Harden was rumored disgruntled and asked to be traded, Durant had an MCL injury and was sidelined for over a month, and Ben Simmons wasn’t able to play for him due to back and mental health issues. Brooklyn eventually walked off this season overwhelmed — as they were swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round.

As their chapter has ended, the Nets can only look forward and hope for the better on what lies ahead. With Simmons and Joe Harris definitely prepared to enforce them, this team will definitely seek a season of bounce back and vengeance under Nash’ possible ongoing leadership.
