LeBron James had a historical season in terms of his numbers, especially scoring, at the age of 37. Right until the end of the regular season he was one of the top two scorers in the league with 30.3 points per game.

His number further increased as the final stage of the regular season began — in March James averaged 34.3 points per game. Some analysts started speculating that the four-time NBA champion gave up on his team and focused on chasing the scoring title.

According to James, that is not the case at all. “Once we were eliminated from playoff contention, then it was nothing to talk about, nothing to think about,” he said during the season exit interview.

“I’m not be out there just be playing meaningless games to try to win the scoring title. That’s so beneath me and where I am in my career.

“If I would have played enough games to qualify period in the beginning, then that’ll take care of itself. But once we were eliminated from contention knowing my ankle situation but me going out there and playing in games that don’t mean anything for myself personally or for this franchise.

“I mean, I don’t take nothing away from the guys that went out and did what they did winning these last two games, I thought they the younger guys played great basketball. But for me I’m 19 years in and going after scoring title when you not making the postseason is the most wackiest thing ever.”
