Boston Celtics were one of the most active teams in the trade deadline, adding multiple players and being involved in several deals. The Celtics walked away with Derrick White after giving up Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford and a first-round pick to the Spurs.

Before acquiring White from San Antonio, Stevens gave up Dennis Schroder, Enes Freedom and Bruno Fernando to Houston for Daniel Theis. The German big returned to Boston after spending a few months in Houston.

President of basketball operations Brad Stevens addressed the media today after a very busy trade deadline for the Celtics. Stevens claimed he felt good about Boston’s starting lineup, but they needed additions in their backup unit.

“We felt good about our team going into the deadline, especially our starting lineup. But we really felt like we wanted to add guys to accentuate those guys,” Stevens said, per Keith Smith of sportrac and Celticsblog.

The former Celtics’ coach talked about Derrick White’s fit with the rest of the roster. Boston added another great perimeter defender alongside Marcus Smart to enhance the team’s defensive ability. Boston is allowing opponents to shoot just 33.3 percent from above the break. At the same time, they had the second best ranking in defending shots in the paint, allowing just 38.9 percent.

“We’ve thought for years that Derrick would be a fit with our very best players. He makes the right plays on offense over and over and over. He only cares about winning,” Stevens said, per Keith Smith.

“Neither move was a short-term deal. When trading away two really good perimeter players, we had to get perfect fits. We want to maintain the stretch we’re on, but this is about the long-term. We know these guys can be on the floor in a 7-game playoff series,” he continued.

The Celtics may not have finished adding more players to fill in the roster. Stevens claimed that he’s looking into signing more capable shooters.

“We’re looking to add guys who are skilled. Guys who know how to play and have some savvy. And we have an eye on shooting. We’ll probably add a couple of players today, and then go from there,” Stevens said.
