Ben Simmons’ decision to sit out games this season until he gets traded to another team is costing hi significant money. The 25-year-old point guard was set to earn $33 million this year but his salary is getting reduced by fines.

However, it seems that Simmons is not focused on the money side of things and just wants out of Philadelphia. With a trade deadline just a week away, the chances of hime getting moved by the Sixers prior to February 10 are slim.

Via Ramona Shelbourne of ESPN:

“Simmons has lost over over $19 million in fines since the season began (each missed game costs him $360,000). He hasn’t cleared a paycheck since the $8.25 million (25% of his $33 million salary) that was due to him Oct. 1. Every two weeks the team sends a notice with an explanation of all the fines he has accumulated for failing to render services, instead of a $1.375 million paycheck. By the end of the season, if he does not play for the Sixers or any other team, Simmons could lose another $12 million.”

Last season Simmons averaged 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game for Philadelphia.
