Kyrie Irving could potentially return to action pretty soon, with The Athletic reporting that the controversial star is expected to play in road games for the Nets and will be allowed to practice at home in Brooklyn. It’s understood that Irving, who has so far refused to get vaccinated against COVID-19, should begin practices with the team in the coming days.
The All-Star point guard has been stepping up basketball-related activities in recent weeks and while it’s unclear as to whether his return will come as a result of vaccination, the team will allow him to practice at home and play road games. The aforementioned publication earlier reported Irving might return to play in the near future as Nets coaches want him back as soon as possible.
The 29-year-old hasn’t made a single appearance for the Nets this season, due to his stance on vaccination and New York State law. He is eligible to play in road games apart from any hosted at Madison Square Garden. However, the Nets initially refused to keep him around as a part-time player, though they continued to pay him for the missed away fixtures. The Nets haven’t struggled all that much in his absence and lead the Eastern Conference with a 21-8 record this term.
There’s no date yet on when Irving could make his season debut.
