Miami Heat were one of the winners of the free agency period, as they claimed Kyle Lowry in a sign-and-trade deal with the Toronto Raptors.
The NBA, however, is conducting an investigation for potential violation of tampering rules in Lowry’s deal. The veteran point guard signed a three-year contract with a worth of $90M with the South Beach franchise.
According to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the NBA is not expected to void Lowry’s contract with the Heat in case the investigation shows that there were rules violation.
NBA instituted harsher penalties for tampering since 2019. Those include raising the maximum fine for teams to $10 million and the possibility of suspending team executives, forfeiting draft picks and even the voiding of contracts.
