After entering his freshman year at Oklahoma State as the projected #1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Cade Cunningham is very likely to stay put at No.1, writes Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.
Teams across the league see the Detroit Pistons going with Cunningham, but whether or not a trade happens remains to be seen, as the Houston Rockets have the #2 pick and reportedly ‘love’ Cade.
Here’s more from O’Connor on this year’s NBA Draft:
- With the Pistons now highly likely to keep their pick, 19-year-old G-League Ignite star Jalen Green is preferred to be Houston’s choice at #2 overall. Many clubs are planning on Cunningham & Green going in the top 2.
- Florida State’s Scottie Barnes & UConn’s James Bouknight have been moving up on draft boards recently, with the Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder as teams who like Barnes at picks 5 & 6. OKC also has interest in Bouknight at #6.
- Although we may know what slots players will be taken at, O’Connor thinks the possibility of trades are definitely an option, as ‘picks 2, 3, and 4’ are likely targets for teams.
