Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James named the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year for his on and off the court achievements during 2020.

James has won the award four times, which ties a record set by Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods for the male award. He led the Lakers to the title-winning his fourth NBA championship of his career.

He was also the Finals’ MVP for the fourth time in his career. All the success in the court was combined with other crucial off the court activities like the ‘I Promise’ school he opened in 2018 at his hometown Akron, Ohio.

At the top of that, James’ More Than A Vote organization drew more than 42,000 volunteers to work at polling stations for the November election, helped some earn back their voting rights, and pushed for turnout among Black and young voters, via Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

The future Hall of Famer, who also won the AP award in 2013, 2016, and 2018, is back for the 2020/21 campaign, with the Lakers even stronger this season.
