Gary Trent Jr. will enter the free agent market next offseason, as the Portland Trail Blazers’ swingman intends to not sign a contract extension with the team for now.
According to Jason Quick of The Athletic, Trent Jr. will become a restricted free agent next summer. The Blazers’ forward made incredible performances during the NBA season restart in Orlando.
The former second-round pick scored in double figures in all but one of the seeding games, including four 20-point performances. He played also an important part in Portland’s defensive schemes becoming a two-way threat.
The Blazers added depth to the wing position the past offseason acquiring Robert Covington and Derrick Jones Jr. However, Trent Jr. believes he can remain an important piece of the rotation and improve his market for the next offseason.
Last season, the former Duke player averaged just under 22 minutes per game, putting up 8.9 points and shooting almost 42 percent from beyond the arc on 4.4 attempts per game.
