Obi Toppin got choked up when he talked about playing for the Knicks because they’re his hometown team. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and played high school basketball in Ossining, about an hour away from New York City.
Toppin will get to live out his childhood dream after rising from a unrecruited prospect out of high school to an electrifying prospect and lottery pick.
Toppin was one of the most entertaining college basketball players of the 2019-20 season and should bring excitement to Madison Square Garden. He and fellow first round pick Immanuel Quickley will both help the Knicks as they look to rebuild with young players after years of disappointment.
