Andrew Bynum confirmed that he wants to rest this off season and is uninterested in playing in the Olympics. I can't blame him for that.

That's good for the USA team. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bag.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Bag' />
Coach Mike Krzyzewski was court side in New York tonight (4/26/2012) watching the Knicks vs Clippers game. He commented on team USA during "The New York minute" interview. He made comments on Melo, Tyson Chandler and Chris Paul, Blake Griffin.

Team USA will NOT add any new players to the prelim roster.

Do you guys think it is a mistake for USAB not to add replacements?
With that said, I think that they got quite lucky in 2010 and I wouldn't be surprised if they lost a game during the group stage. For me it comes down to whether the backcourt/wings view it as "we're so good that we don't need a true center" or "we will persevere despite our lack of centers." Coach K is about as good as it gets in promoting the latter but he has some tough nuts to crack on this roster.

I agree. Even with Dwight Howard I thought USA could lose a game. With a thin front court USA will be vulnerable to teams like. Brazil, Spain, France, Russia. USA having weaker interior defense is no bueno. Why do you think USA got lucky in 2010?
Raze, just take a look at the 2010 roster. It was a gutsy team to put out there. If Kevin Durant would have had an off game, they may have been exposed.
Derrick Rose tears his ACL. He is done for the season.

Russell Westbrook is the winner here. This pretty much guarantees that he'll be the third PG on the roster.
Three days after issuing his first press release about the roster pool remaining static, Colangelo has changed his mind.

Quote:Jerry Colangelo said that he will consider expanding the pool of finalists for this summer's Olympics in London.

Colangelo made the decision in response to the loss of Derrick Rose, who suffered a torn ACL in Game 1 of Chicago’s opening round series against the Sixers.

"What I said [previously] was that we didn't plan to do any additions, but we had to continue to monitor the injury situation," Colangelo said. "Obviously this is a big loss. [Point guard] seems to be, at this point, still a pretty strong position. But at this stage, quite honestly, I think all bets are off."

Dwight Howard and LaMarcus Aldridge have also been removed from consideration due to injury, leaving the United States perilously thin in the post.

"We've said that the strength of the team is going to be athleticism, wing players, the backcourt, but we'll see," he said. "We're going to have to consider a lot of things. The good news is that so many people wish and desire to play that we will be very deep regardless of what happens here -- unless there's another rash of things happening here. I pray that it's over."
USA got potentially screwed in the Olympic draw. I don't think its unfair just screwed.

Quote:Men’s Olympic Basketball Tournament

Group A: Argentina, France, Tunisia, USA, OQT 1, OQT 2

Group B: Australia, Brazil, China, Great Britain, Spain, OQT 3

So far nine men’s national teams (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, France, Great Britain, Spain, Tunisia and USA) have already qualified.

The last three teams will qualify via the 12-team FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) for Men taking place in Caracas, Venezuela, 2-8 June. The OQT (Men) teams are: Angola, Dominican Republic, FYROM, Greece, Jordan, Korea, Lithuania, New Zealand, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Russia and hosts Venezuela.

Q1 prediction:Russia

Q2 prediction:Lietuva

Q3 prediction: Greece

USA may have Lietuva, Russia, Argentina,France in group stage. Screw job....

Q2
It looks like US was not considered an Americas team beacuase they are the defending world champions. It is bizzare that they would stick the two best Americas teams in the same group but so it goes.

At least they balanced it out by putting the European champs in the other group. The fact that the UK is the host nation and horse shit in basketball was going to make the groups unbalanced no matter what. But I expect the UK to get some pretty ridiculous calls during this tournament. I'm not too worried about the US being in Group A, it is better for them to get tested early even if it means losing in the group stage (preferably losing to Lithuania). <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
Lamar Odom wants to play in the Olympics. I say why not? Odom had some dominate performances in 2010 WC.

Colangelo announced that he'll look to add one or two additional players to the mix (barring further injuries). He also said that previous experience with the team will be taken into consideration.

Regarding Odom, I thought that he was part of the 20 man squad but that they dropped him at the time of announcing that Aldridge and Howard were out of consideration because of his lack of playing time. E! Would love to film Khloe & Lamar in London.
Anthony Davis in the mix too?

Anthony Davis in the mix too?
Hopefully, Davis is the logical decision. Seems like it will be him or Cousins, albeit neither has previous experience with the team. The only bigs with somewhat recent experience are Boozer, Okafor, Jamison and Brad Miller. Javale McGee was pretty close to making the 2010 team. Javale McGee is also an idiot.

They may invite a PG given that the announcement to add players came after Rose went down but with Williams, Paul and Westbrook the PG position is hardly a concern.
According to Sports Illustrated, Anthony Davis will be added to the Olympic player pool! Greg Monroe might be another addition.

Quote:With injuries decimating Team USA's roster of Olympic finalists, Kentucky big man and projected No. 1 pick Anthony Davis has been selected as a replacement candidate to compete in the London Games this summer, according to sources.

USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo and the coaching staff headed by Mike Krzyzewski will be adding one other player, with both picks expected to be announced later this week. Pistons center Greg Monroe, Jazz center Al Jefferson and Kings center DeMarcus Cousins were among the players under consideration, according to sources.

But Cousins, sources said, has been invited to the Select team -- which will train with Team USA before the Olympics -- and is not the other candidate. And a source close to Jefferson said he is not a finalist either.

Detroit media now saying that Greg Monroe will not be considered for the Olympic team pool. Lots of unknowns but I love this time of year.
Adding a college kid is a mistake.

This is the last team that made the mistake of adding a college kid...

Anthony Davis is more of a beast than a college kid at this point.

A. Davis is good. This isn't 1992. Even though Anthony Davis is impressive. There is nothing he can do that Deandre Jordan couldn't do better.

Kids nice though...

I'd go with DeAndre Jordan
