Boston Celtics rising star Jayson Tatum earned his first All-Star selection this season, but he still isn’t getting that kind of treatment by referees.

“Jayson Tatum is tired of not getting star treatment from officials and has been complaining about it on the bench and in the makeshift locker room,” Joe Vardon of The Athletic reports.

The 22-year-old averaged 23.4 points per game this season, which was 15th in the NBA, but he only averaged 4.7 free-throw attempts per game this season, 33rd most in the league.

To compare, that’s less than half the free throws that James Harden (11.8 per game) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (10.0 per game) attempted per game.

In the last four games, Tatum played in the “bubble”, he shot a total of 14 free throws.

Some players (including Harden and Antetokounmpo) easily reach that number in one game.

While some refuse to acknowledge that “star treatment” is a real thing, the star players do tend to get more calls in their favor and Tatum feels like he should be one of those players.
