Sports analyst Colin Cowherd is of the opinion that the NBA is anti Donald Trump and it is an ‘increasingly political league’. According to him, it could be one of the causes why the league saw the double-digit dip in ratings because it turns off conservative fans.

The NBA saw its ratings drop 12 percent in February compared to the same time in 2019, per Sam Amico of Sports Illustrated.

“Remember, the NBA is anti Trump. They lean into it. The NBA is making a bet that they will be on the right side of history w Trump. They also realize 95% of their critics aren’t fans to begin with. Yes, it’s an increasingly political league. That will turn many off — no doubt,” the host of the Herd podcast tweeted.

“The double digit ratings dip was concerning this year. Is that the cost of becoming more political? You can certainly make that argument. Lots of conservative sports fans. It would make some sense that many fans were turned off,” he added.

While the NBA as an organization has not officially opposed the President of the United States, many prominent league figures, most notably coaches Gregg Popovich and Steve Kerr, have criticized him heavily.
