One respected NBA player told Adrian Wojnarowski that with basketball back, the news and focus will turn away from systemic racism.
“Once we start playing basketball again, the news will turn from systemic racism to ‘who did what’ in the game last night,” the player said. “It’s a crucial time for us to be able to play and blend that to impact what’s happening in our communities.”
There’s no singular conversation driving discussion among players now, Wojnarowski also notes.
It isn’t just the Black Lives Matter movement, or the coronavirus, or bubble limitations, or family concerns, or risk of injury, or money.
Many players are discussing and weighing it all.
Kyrie Irving is the “driving force” behind the concern of many players regarding the restart of the season, as about 200 players are expected on a Zoom call on June 12 to discuss it all.
