Latvia center Zane Tamane has decided to retire from international basketball.

She joins Gunta Basko and Ieva Kublina who both finished their stints with the national side after Eurobasket Women 2011.

Tamane said to the Latvian Basketball Federation website: “My mind would like to look at the possibility of getting to and playing in the World Championship. It has always been a pleasure to represent Latvia and I will support the girls and if needed help them with advices. But I fell my body does not have the required strength and energy.

“Truth be told basketball in the last couple of years has brought not only positive feelings, but also pain and negative emotions. A rest is needed and even then I don’t know how long I’ll keep playing. 300 days of intense workouts every year leaves it’s marks and I have to start thinking what I will be doing and how will I feel after the end of my pro career.”

Latvia have been drawn in Group C of this year’s Eurobasket Women, alongside tournament hosts France, Serbia and Great Britain.
