The penultimate week of the EuroLeague season saw the final playoff spot decided with the showdown between Baskonia and Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv going the way of the former as the Israeli giants failed to qualify for the post-season for a third straight season.

After a tense first three quarters, Baskonia raced away in the final period to record an 83-72 win as Johannes Voigtmann led the winners with 14 points.

Around the EuroLeague, Fenerbahce were able to outlast Khimki 73-64 in Moscow behind Brad Wanamaker’s 14 points.

Alexey Shved led Khimki with 19 points and his first basket of the game broke the EuroLeague scoring mark for the season which now stands at 628. Both teams have already qualified for the playoffs.

The other two games on Thursday had nothing but pride at stake as Olimpia Milano beat Brose Bamberg 83-78. Vladimir Micov led Milan’s balanced offence with 14 points.

And Barcelona hit 19 three-pointers as they hammered basement side Anadolu Efes 107-83 in front of a sorry 1,920 fans at a 16,000-seat Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul.

Thomas Heurtel had 20 points and nine assists for the Catalan side.
