The 2016-17 BBL regular season is in the books after an action-packed final weekend with 13 games taking place.

Two spots in the Playoffs were still up for grabs and were taken by Surrey Scorchers and Bristol Flyers, while Plymouth Raiders endured final-day disappointment once again.

In the first deciding game on Saturday, Surrey recorded a convincing 70-93 victory away at Plymouth to book their place with Gabe McCray top scoring with 18 points in the win.

Bristol needed overtime to get past Manchester Giants with 19 points and 21 rebounds from Leslee Smith in an 89-81 success on Saturday.

Andreas Kapoulas’ side travelled to Surrey Sports Park knowing a win would secure a return to the post-season and earned a 71-79 triumph with Hameed Ali scoring the final seven points to finish with 19 as well as handing out 10 assists.

“Credit to our guys, I thought we deserved it,” said Kapoulas.

“It was a rollercoaster of a season, starting 1-11 and to finish with a 15-6 record since is very impressive.”

Plymouth needed a Bristol loss to have any hope of advancing to the Play-Offs, but went on to suffer a 99-93 defeat away at Manchester Giants with Callum Jones and Yorick Williams combining for 51 points in the victory.

Meanwhile, there was also a three-way tie for third heading into the final weekend and that spot went to Glasgow Rocks even before they completed a double-winning weekend.

Kieron Achara netted the game-winner at the buzzer for a 70-72 victory at Leeds Force and then the Rocks battled back from 20 down to beat London Lions 80-77 in a dress rehearsal of their Play-Offs matchup.

Sheffield Sharks secured a top-four finish with a 70-83 success at Worcester Wolves on Friday to end their 11-game win streak in the league, before suffering an agonising 82-84 loss at home to Newcastle Eagles.

The Eagles had also beaten Leicester Riders 83-76 on Friday with 24 points from Rahmon Fletcher as he poured in 52 on the weekend to finish as the season’s leading scorer in the league.

Leicester also went down to Worcester on the final day as the visitors finished strong for a 77-80 triumph on the road to return to winning ways.

Finally, it was a mixed final weekend for Cheshire Phoenix as they lost 101-89 at London Lions prior to a comprehensive 128-77 win at home to Leeds Force with Mike DiNunno and Earl Brown sharing 64 points in the win.
