It was somewhat of a surprise that Darius Adams opted not to re-sign for Baskonia in the off-season and instead fly out to China to sign a one-year deal with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers, worth $1.5million but the 27-year-old guard gave his reasonings behind the move.

In a series of tweets, Adams went on full attack mode noticing that his old club have signed new players but have not yet paid him. And his team-mate from last season Mike James has also tweeted in support of Adams sparking debate about more possible financial troubles at the club that previously plagued them in 2015.

James also left Baskonia in the off-season and has signed with Panathinaikos.

It is unclear how much Baskonia owes Adams, who averaged 17.2 points in the Liga Endesa and 13.2 points in the EuroLeague last season.

It’s been a tough off-season for Baskonia, who were forced to end their named sponsorship with Laboral Kutxa in the first week of September after a seven year collaboration. The team have signed ex-NBA stars like Andrea Bargnani and Shane Larkin but the man who led Baskonia to its best EuroLeague finish has thrown a curve ball into the side’s pre-season issues.
