Tyrese Haliburton has been diagnosed with shingles and is expected to miss several weeks of action for the Indiana Pacers, head coach Rick Carlisle confirmed.
The illness developed recently, forcing the star guard to step away from team activities as he focuses on recovery.
“He will make a full recovery, but this happened over the last few days,” Carlisle told reporters on Sunday.
“He was meeting us in D.C. and had some odd symptoms, and he came back here. That’s what’s happening with him. We certainly wish him a speedy recovery. It’s a unique case and a unique situation, but I talked to him a few times, and he’s always in a good mood, so he’ll get through it.”
According to Carlisle, the symptoms appeared unexpectedly while Haliburton was traveling to join the team, prompting medical evaluation and the eventual diagnosis.
While the situation is unusual, the organization remains optimistic about his health and long-term outlook, emphasizing that his recovery is the top priority.
Haliburton has yet to appear in a game this season as he continues to rehab from a torn Achilles tendon suffered during Game 7 of last year’s NBA Finals, an injury that already sidelined him for an extended period.
Without their All-Star guard available, the Pacers have struggled throughout the campaign.
Indiana currently holds a 15-43 record, placing them at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings as the team navigates a challenging season marked by injuries and roster adjustments.
