The Denver Nuggets are moving to bolster their roster by signing former Charlotte Hornets guard KJ Simpson to a two-way contract, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.
Simpson, 23, spent 1½ seasons with Charlotte, averaging 7.3 points and 21.3 minutes across 50 games. He will take the roster spot of Spencer Jones, who was converted to a standard deal.
In the 2024-25 season, Simpson averaged 7.8 points, 3.1 assists, and 3.0 rebounds over 36 games. His shooting remains a work in progress, with a 34.6% field goal percentage and 25.4% from three-point range.
This season, Simpson’s numbers dipped slightly in limited action, recording 6.0 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.1 rebounds over 14 appearances for Charlotte while logging 15.9 minutes per game.
Simpson has also impressed in the G League, averaging 16.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists across four games for the Grand Rapids Gold this season.
Denver currently sits fourth in the Western Conference with a 35-20 record and has a deep rotation led by Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, averaging 28.7 and 25.7 points per game respectively.
The two-way deal allows Simpson to split time between the NBA squad and the G League, giving the Nuggets an option to develop his skill set while providing insurance in case of injuries or lineup adjustments.
