Los Angeles Lakers forward Rui Hachimura spoke at practice on Sunday and expressed confidence in his recovery ahead of Monday’s game against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center.

Asked how it felt to be back on the court after missing time with a calf injury, Hachimura said, “Yeah, I’m fine. I think it’s been 2 weeks almost. My calf is healed and yeah, we’re practicing.”

Hachimura explained that the team explored multiple options during his recovery, including time with the G League, as he worked to return safely.

Practicing with the G League group provided a different environment, which Hachimura welcomed. “I mean, it’s different, you know. I think with us there’s a couple guys I knew, too,” he said, referencing prior connections and familiarity with coaches he worked with earlier in his career.

Calf injuries often raise concerns around lingering issues, something Hachimura acknowledged based on experience. “I had it… for 2 years now. It’s a different side but… the calf is really important,” he said, adding that fatigue and recovery can significantly affect availability if not managed carefully.

When asked directly if he expects to play Monday night, Hachimura sounded optimistic. “Yeah I think so. Yeah, I think I felt good after, but I got to check with the trainers and everybody,” he said, noting that final clearance would come later.

Hachimura also addressed his contract situation, as he is set to be a free agent after the season, and made clear it has not altered his approach. “End of the day, you know, I have to… help this team to win,” he said. “I’ve been here for three, four season now… I love these guys.”

He emphasized staying present as the season moves into its second half. “I’m just trying to focus on every day, just in the moment,” Hachimura said, pointing to the importance of ramping up play as the schedule tightens.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick labeled Hachimura one of the team’s best catch-and-shoot options, a role the forward has leaned into since joining the roster. “Especially playing with LeBron, AD and now Luka… these guys get a lot of attention,” Hachimura said. “Those are… my favorite thing to do now.”

Hachimura added that playing alongside stars like LeBron James has expanded his offensive game. “Extended my game a lot,” he said, noting continued comfort with mid-range shots while adding perimeter consistency.

The Lakers enter Monday’s 10:00 p.m. ET tip ranked fifth in the Western Conference at 23–13, while Sacramento sits 14th at 9–30, making availability decisions closely watched as Los Angeles looks to maintain position.
